It's a lot tougher to make a difference." Tom Brokaw Company/Organization Brief Mission: Feld Hyde----Attorneys Securing Your Future Accreditations: J.D.; LL.M in Taxation Education: Alabama Law School-LL.M.; Cumberland School of Law-J.D., cum laude; Auburn University-B.A., magna cum laude Family: Husband, Mike; Daughters, Kristina and Ali Personal Business Philosophy: Plan purposely, prepare prayerfully, proceed positively and pursue persistently. (Four steps to achievement by William Ward) Advice to women in business: Calvin Coolidge's quote: "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful individuals with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." Best advice ever received: Go the extra mile.Secret to surviving in business: Have a genuine concern for your client's best interest. Strongest inspiration: My mom, who is an amazing woman in all respects. What most people don’t realize about me: I have a sense of humor and enjoy laughing uncontrollably with those close to me! Primary volunteer and community involvement: Serving in various capacities in civic and education organizations, including serving as past president of Vestavia Hills Board of Education; Leadership Birmingham; past president of Leadership Vestavia Hills; Advisory Council for Seasoned Performers, past Board of Directors, Vestavia Hills Chamber of Commerce; past Board of Directors, Vestavia Hills Education Foundation; alumni of Civiettes (volunteers for United Cerebral Palsy). Favorite place or way to relax: Reading a book on the beach. Favorite restaurant: The main restaurant at The Cloister Resort at Sea Island Additional Thoughts: During 2006, I was treated for stage 2 breast cancer. Through this experience, I learned the hearts of so many fine people who helped me through this process and I will forever be grateful to those people. Also, I learned that staying involved with client matters during this time gave me a much needed diversion away from my own difficulties. Most of my clients did not know of my diagnosis because I did not want them to worry; however, I believe this experience has helped make me more sensitive to others' unspoken concerns in dealing with their own family planning legal matters. And now, with a good prognosis, I always want to be available to other women (and their families) who face this diagnosis.
