Job description: Jane was founder and is past president of Systematic Services, Inc. - a company providing business support services, which she sold in 1998. The company has been in operation since May of 1982 and was the first of its kind in the Birmingham area. Jane has written articles for industry newsletters, spoken at national conventions, acted as consultant for executive suite, startups throughout the U. S. and was featured in the "Pathfinders" section of the industry's national newsletter. She is currently affiliated with Lawrence-Arendall-Humphries Real Estate as an Associate Broker. Accreditations: Real Estate Broker; Graduate, Realtor Institute Favorite Awards & Honors: Jane was one of the first women admitted to the Rotary Club of Shades Valley (1988), served as the first female Club President in 1994, and served the North Alabama District (6860) as District Governor in 2000-01. She was the first woman to hold this office in the state of Alabama.
Family: Married (1982) to Dick Schmalz, a commercial real estate developer. One daughter, Lori Dann, Copy Editor in the Sports Department at the Fort Worth Star-Telegraph, Fort Worth, Texas. Your strongest inspiration: Her husband, Dick ... he believes in her capabilities more than she does, and never fails to tell her. Jane is inspired not only by his belief in her, but also by his example of honesty and integrity in his own business and personal relationships. What being in business has taught you: Resilience ... pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again! Secret to dealing with employees: Leading by example, and putting yourself in their shoes! (Again ... The Golden Rule). Favorite Volunteer Activities: Jane has served on the boards of United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham, The Women's Network, The Shades Valley YMCA, the Alabama Symphonic Association, and the Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of The Heart Guild of Birmingham and in 1997 served as Vice President and Co-Chair of the Annual Heart Ball benefitting the American Heart Association. |
