Company/Organization Brief Mission To be a unified team delivering compassionate, quality and cost-effective cardiovascular care for each individual, honoring the responsibilities entrusted to us.
Length of service: In the practice of Cardiology since 1996, with CardioVascular Associates since Feb 2001
Accreditations: Fellow of the American College of Cardiology
Favorite Awards & Honors: While on faculty at Tulane University I was a co writer of a proposal to have Tulane recognized as a National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and helped establish the Center. Although I ultimately decided I didn't want to stay in academics, I'm happy to see something I put so much effort into developing succeed and thrive.
Education: Medical School - Memorial University of Newfoundland, Internship - University of Toronto, Internal Medicine Residency- William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Michigan Cardiology Fellowship - Tulane University
Family: Single
Personal Business Philosophy: In my opinion, teamwork is the key to any successful endeavor. If people I work with see that I'm willing to pitch in with just about anything, that approach is copied without worrying about job descriptions.
Favorite Quote: "I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble." - Helen Keller
Advice to women in business: Believe that you can do anything you set out to do. It may not be easy, but with a positive attitude and a good dose of hard work, pretty well anything can be accomplished. Our limitations are usually only the ones we set for ourselves.
Best advice ever received: I've learned from my mentors in the past that 'No is not an option'. It is one of my favorite sayings. If I left things alone whenever anyone told me that something couldn't be done, I know I'd not of accomplished many things both professionally and personally.
Secret to surviving in business: Fortunately I chose an area where my services will always be in demand. However, customer service, even in medical practice, is important. I try to make sure my patients have a positive experience when they come to see me. Although, as can be imagined, we have emergencies that can't be anticipated, I try very hard to stick with my schedule. In addition, if we're enjoying what we do, that will often translate into what the patient experiences here, and hopefully the enjoy their physician visit as much as can be expected.
Your strongest inspiration: My parents who came to this country with just their education. They are truly self made and were selfless in trying to make sure their children had everything possible to succeed in life.
Secret to dealing with employees: Teamwork, be part of the team. Don't hesitate to expect a lot, when you do you'll be surrounded by people who are able to accomplish a lot.
