The
Alabama Women's Economic Summit Mission Statement:
"To
provide an opportunity to consider, debate and endorse the issues
that are critical to women fulfilling their career potential and
to reflect a new vision for the 21st century . "
The
Alabama Women’s Economic Summit's goal was to build upon the ideas
developed during the Inaugural Women’s Economic Summit in 98 and
devise a detailed plan to tackle issues affecting Alabama women
in their careers.
More
than 750 attended Summit 98, which featured keynote speakers Elizabeth
Dole and Stedman Graham; a special youth track lead by Joline Godfrey
and 24 power-packed mini sessions geared toward helping women in
business. Broad initiatives across 7 focus areas were developed
by participants - addressing basic concerns such as barriers to
employment, balancing work and family, and improving education.
Patterned
after the 1996 National Women’s Economic Summit, this event was
developed to consider key economic issues facing Alabama women and
to foster strategic alliances to help improve economic stability
for women in the workplace.
Summit
2000 was presented by Women's Exchange, in partnership with the Business
Council of Alabama. It was held on the campus of Samford University
in Birmingham, Alabama on May 21-22, 2000.
"Never
doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change
the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
Margaret
Mead
